The Earls of Leicester is a bluegrass group assembled by Jerry Douglas to present the music of Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs and their band the Foggy Mountain Boys to a contemporary audience. This self-titled debut album earned a Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album in 2015.

The Fiddler 1975 : An East Texas Fiddle Maker and his Wife

Directed by Marshall Riggins, this short non-fiction film from 1975 captures an elderly East Texas fiddle maker and his wife. The gentleman discusses the craft of fiddle making and how he met his wife. After completing his hand-crafted instrument, he plays several songs. Riggins produced this film for a religious organization. The film became lost after the organization allegedly decided the content was crude rather than sacred, and destroyed all remaining prints.

The McGee Brothers, Sam (1894–1975) and Kirk (1899–1983), played as a musical duo for 50 years beginning in the mid-1920s. Steeped in the tradition of “old-time” string band music, Sam, on guitar, and Kirk, on banjo and fiddle, were joined in the 1930s with Arthur Smith on fiddle and banjo to form the Dixieliners. The McGees enjoyed a resurgence during the folk music revival of the late 1950s and early 1960s. During this period, musician Mike Seeger (The New Lost City Ramblers) reunited the McGees with Smith and in 1968 recorded their first album together. This is their only recording as a trio.

Every Tuesday people travel many miles to enjoy southern cooking, live music, and good company at the Maness Pottery & Music Barn. Clyde Maness, the barn’s founder and operator, has been opening the doors to his barn since 1974 and has many stories to tell. David Puckett is a filmmaker and photographer living in Durham. He earned a degree in journalism and media production at East Carolina University. He is currently the photographer and videographer for the Duke University Talent Identification Program and a CDS certificate candidate.

Listen to Our Story: Alan Lomax, Folk Producer/Folk Promoter

Nathan Salsburg of the Association for Cultural Equity explores two key undertakings from this aspect of Lomax's career, his 1959 "Southern Journey" field-recording trip and its later ancillary, the American Patchwork video recording project (1978-1985). He argues that Lomax's technological, curatorial and promotional savvy were fundamental to the success of his mission. He also discusses the outlets that ACE has pursued, since Lomax's retirement in 1998, to further publish and promote his work and that mission, from CDs to LPs to YouTube to site-specific repatriation initiatives. Alan Lomax is known primarily as a folklorist and a documentarian, terms that suggest that his work was largely in service of the archival preservation of traditional and vernacular culture. But Lomax, from the tender age of 17, saw a more activist mission for himself: giving a "voice to the voiceless" by laboring to carve out space in the communication system for "all the submerged cultures" and their specific expressive traditions. The Quebe Sisters Band: Sophia, Grace & Hulda

Concert by the Quebe Sisters Band, composed of Grace, Sophia and Hulda Quebe, who all sing and play the fiddle, and the Clark twins, Penny Lea (guitar and mandolin) and Katy Lou (banjo, piano and accordion). They perform a refreshing blend of Texas-style fiddling, vintage country, bluegrass and jazz and swing standards.

Speaker Biography: The Quebe Sisters Band has been awarded the Crescendo Award by the Western Music Association and the Western Swing Album of the Year from the Academy of Western Artists. They have appeared at the Grand Ole Opry, the Kennedy Center, NYC's Lincoln Center, the Ryman Auditorium, the Marty Stuart Show, the Eddie Stubbs Show on WSM, the Birchmere, the Ernest Tubb Midnite Jamboree (as host band), the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, multiple European tours and the National Folk Festival. They have appeared in concert with Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, Merle Haggard, Asleep at the Wheel, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers, Riders in the Sky, and Marty Stuart.

Alice's Restaurant is the debut album by Arlo Guthrie released in September 1967 by Reprise Records. It features one of his most famous songs, "Alice's Restaurant Massacree". A steady seller, the album peaked at #63 on the Billboard 200 album chart two years later on the week of December 27, 1969.
